Blue Train to Franschoek - November 2004

I had already moved to FNB Branch, but Peet and Elaine still included us in their year end function. We were told that someone would fetch us in the morning and that we needed our ID books. Our guess was that we would fly somewhere, so you can imagine our confusion when we headed to Pretoria and the station. That is when we realised that we were about to have our first experience on the Blue Train. We were delayed in Pretioria, so our stopover in Kimberley to see the big hole was short and sweet. The best carriage was the last carriage as the back of it was glass which gave a wonderful view. Sleeping, however, was a little difficult even in a luxurious cabin. We also had to leave the train early - a special stop was arranged - so that we could get to our hotel and spa in Franschoek where we were treated to massages and a wonderful dinner before flying home the next day. It was a wonderful long weekend, all the more special for the surprises!
